Reasons to Get Vaccinated for COVID-19 [Transcript]

It has been over one year since the start of the pandemic. Finally, we are in the stage of getting vaccinated for COVID-19. Many people feared that a vaccine for COVID-19 would be years away. Thankfully, it is not. The vaccine is available and here to take. Unfortunately, many people are unsure if they will get vaccinated. The fact of the matter is there are many reasons to get vaccinated for COVID-19.

Reason To Get Vaccinated #1: Improve your mental health

For over one year, many people have been trying to cope with stress, fear, and anxiety related to catching COVID-19. We have been afraid to see and hug our loved ones, congregate for religious purposes, and engage in normal day-to-day life. Some have suffered separate and isolated from loved ones after catching the virus, while others have been afraid to leave their homes. One benefit of getting vaccinated is that it offers an overall sense of safety, decreases fear, anxiety, and overall worry. It will help us regain a sense of control that many of us feel we have lost. The vaccine can also improve your mental health related to stress, fear, and anxiety of catching the virus.

Reason To Get Vaccinated #2: Protect yourself from the virus

Research has found that those that are vaccinated for COVID-19 are much less likely to require hospitalization, even if you do contract the virus. While washing your hands and wearing a face mask are good ways to protect yourself from catching COVID-19, getting vaccinated is the best additional form of protection against COVID. The benefits of getting vaccinated far outweigh any risk.

Reason To Get Vaccinated #3: Reduce shame/anxiety surrounding social activities

Since the pandemic started over a year ago, many people have been shamed or unfriended due to their decision to gather with friends or loved ones, regardless of what the CDC has suggested. Once you get vaccinated, you can gather safely with friends and family and not worry about causing them harm. Getting vaccinated can remove the shame and guilt associated with trying to live a normal life during the pandemic.

Reason To Get Vaccinated #4: Care for your community

When this pandemic started over a year ago, people proclaimed: we are all in this together. Let’s continue to stand in this together and promote getting vaccinated for COVID-19. Tell your family and friends that are unsure or fearful of getting the vaccine how important it is to get vaccinated. Perhaps it will be helpful to talk to them about their fears. Maybe showing them some of the research findings in this post can help them overcome their fears.

Over a year ago, we hoped for a solution to this virus that placed us in crisis and in isolation. That solution is here! Get vaccinated.
