Coming Out:

Your Journey to Self-Acceptance

Presented by Jonathan Basla

Do you want to live authentically?

Coming out can be one of the most freeing decisions a queer person can make. But it’s also scary. Allowing others to know this part of your identity is to be fully seen and heard. This is an act of bravery that falls on the shoulders of LGBTQ+ people. Many factors may cause you to hesitate while sharing about your identity and life. These may include your family, friends, workplace, geographical location, or religious and political beliefs (to name a few). They may also impact your own sense of security and safety to exist freely. That said, no one can speak your truth better than you can. Your path to coming out is unique to you. It can pave the way to letting go of shame and fear so that you can honor your authentic self.

Whether you have already gone through the coming out process or are just beginning your journey, you are not alone. The emotions you may experience can be overwhelming. With support, you can write your own story and continue on the journey to self-acceptance. With greater representation around us, there is now a broader language beyond the binary. As a result, you have the freedom to explore any identities that resonate with you.
