Like so many other young Black women, Afemi (she/her) grappled with the stigma of seeking mental counseling and longed to contribute to a reality where more Black women could feel seen by professionals in the industry. Afemi strives to collaborate with her clients as they make sense of their lives and identities within the context of their cultural unit(s) and society at large. Tapping into our true selves, embracing all that we discover, and then applying those discoveries to our journey in this world can make room for more joy and empowerment as we charge with intention towards the future.
Afemi is an MSEd candidate in the Mental Health Counseling program at Hunter College. She takes a person-centered approach to cultivating a productive and engaging healing space. Explore the connection between mind, body and time through mindfulness, somatic grounding and psychodynamics.
