BIPOC Women’s Mental Health and the Cost of Being ‘The Strong One’
For BIPOC women, the expectation to always be the “strong one” creates an invisible burden that deeply affects BIPOC women’s mental health.
Senior Psychotherapist
Ashley (she/her/hers) believes that the human experience is both unique and deeply personal. It’s not easy to share your problems, especially when you don’t believe that your problems are important. However, comparing your problems and experiences to others will not allow you to heal. No problem is too small, so if something is affecting you, then we can take the time to explore it and see how we can improve your daily life.
Having pursued her educational goals full-time while working in multiple part-time positions, Ashley knows first-hand how hard it is to juggle multiple responsibilities while navigating through daily life. Seeking therapy herself allowed her to pay it forward and create an environment where her clients feel comfortable enough to share and connect.
Additionally, Ashley understands how unpredictable life can be. From the circumstances you are born into to the loves and losses that one can experience, there are so many variables that can affect one’s quality of life. She takes an integrative approach with her clients, which includes principles from client-centered, psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, relational, and systemic treatment approaches to suit every client’s needs.
Ashley self-identifies as a cisgender, African American, Baptist woman.
